Tuesday 1 June

We had a fun time in the hall doing gymnastics with a person from Sport Waikato. We spent an hour in the hall and next week we will have another hour. We were on the beam and the box.
It has rained all day today, we haven't been outside at all. We have behaved well though. This afternoon we went to Miss Waller for Dance, we had to make up a move by ourselves then join with a partner to make a dance. For Te Reo we practised the words for orange, apple, pear and banana.

Monday 31 May

Tui house won this week with 1250 points.

Last Thursday we had a shared lunch for Courtney and Mitchell and their Mum and Dad. We had lots of yummy food and we gave them a Farewell card from each class. Today is their last day.

On Saturday night there was a farewell party at Karen and Robbie's place. They had a band there.

The boat with the sail belonged to Oliver and the other one was Nathans.
This is another photo of Wacky Hair Day. Jessica is doing Jump Jam.
The NZ crews did well, I'm sure all your cheering helped!!
Today the Year 3 kids tried to cut around a photo of their boat on Paint-it was quite tricky. They are going to paste it in front of a picture of the sea.

The Big Races

The bell is a person inside a bell ringing a little bell. The bell was for good luck in the final. There is a real bell you can ring for good luck that anyone can ring but you have to be interviewed first. The Pair won that's why they have got a yellow bib. They had a silver fern flag that is very big. Emma came second, first was Belarus and third was China. The girl in the white top with sunglasses on her head is Susan. She is from USA. We have seen her alot this week at rowing and at the hotel. She came third today. I waved the NZ flags and I had NZ tattoos on my face. Libby has a green banger that when its crinkled it makes a clapping noise. The blue thing that Libby is holding is a seat and if you don't sit on it you get stones on your bottom and if you sit on the green words they will go on your trousers.

Zdravo Kowhai Class

Whose is the boat with the sail and whose is the one with the pink deck? How come Nathan is doing so many maths work sheets? The guy that made the metal pictures name was James. I thought Jackie was going crazy. Do you have more photos to show me of the wacky hair day? I am going to try to tell you something with the microphone today. Na svidenje (na svee-de-nye) ... Goodbye.

The Olden Day Printer

This is a printer. We saw it in the castle yesterday. First you get the tinsy little pieces that have your name written like a, r, c, h, i, e and push them together. Then you choose your picture made of metal. The picture is very bumpy. He rolled black ink over the metal picture name piece. Libby got one too. Then he put a yellow piece of paper over the top of the metal picture and slid it into the printer. Then I pushed this big long piece of wood as hard as I could push it and if Oliver tried it would be very had for him. The wood pushed this big piece of metal down on the paper as hard as it could go.

Then he melted some wax over the flag of Bled and pushed it hard with a little round thing until the wax was hard. I will show you it when I get back. The printer was 600 years old I think.

Wednesday 26 May

Today Mrs Sweetman came up and we did our Peer Tutoring.
Mrs Peter was our teacher this morning as Mrs Hall was doing some testing.

We have been doing lots of Maths, we have been adding on to the hundreds. What is 160 + 20?

Nathan says that he has been doing lots of Maths worksheets.

We have been learning about adjectives such as wise, huge, tiny.

We have been reading lots of fun poems. For our writing today we had to pick a little toy and write down lots of adjectives about it.

The big Long Drive and the Foot Brusher

We drove here from Belgium on our second day and we dropped the trailer off. The building is for a boat builder in Germany. All the boats inside were in half. The boat builder only makes yellow boats. The next day we came back and picked the trailer up and put the boats on the roof of the trailer and then we drove to Slovenia. The drive to Slovenia was very very long. We drove for about 10 hours. It was very very different. The motorway lanes were skinny. We counted 89 trucks in 5 minutes. We saw heaps & heaps of trees & snow & very very old buildings and castles. Nothing looked the same as in New Zealand. All the cars had to stop on the road in Austria before they went into the tunnels. It was for so long that people had to get out to go to the toilet on the grass.

You put your feet on the foot brusher and it starts up very fast and it cleans your shoe. I nearly twisted my foot. It goes twice as fast as a cheetah. This was in a hotel in Germany.

These are people bones from a long time ago. They were building a car park and then they found the bones. We saw them in the night time in Belgium.

Tuesday 25 May

We found out that Sir Peter Blake was shot by pirates.
These are pictures of Jackie and Lulu on Wacky Hair Day.

Our plasticene boats were about 13cms long.
Today we started Dance, so the kids thought that was a lot of fun!!
We think you are so lucky to see all the interesting things over there. We thought the lake and castle were really beautiful. We hope Richard is not distracted by the beautiful scenery!!

The Long Zig-Zaggy Walk

I am in Slovenia.
Today I took these pictures from the coaching boat and some from our motel.

This is what the Bled Castle looks like from our hotel.
It was a very very long walk to the castle. We went up a zig-zaggy path yesterday. And in the castle there is a whole lot of hot oil holes. Hot oil holes are when in the old days they poured hot oil out on baddies.

I was on the coach boat when I took this photo. This is the same place that we climbed up to yesterday. There is a draw bridge.
I was driving the coach boat. Richard talked on his walkie talkie to the rowers. We sneaked out on the boat because sometimes you are not allowed motor boats on the lake.

This is an island with a church on it and there is no way off. You have to go there by boat.

This is the church that you just saw but close up.

Zdravo (Hello) Kowhai

I would like to know how big the plasticine boats are. Have you you found out how Sir Peter Blake died?
I would like to see a picture of the Wacky Hair Day. If I was there I would have put half green and half red.

How big was the wire mesh in Discovery?

Week 5

We made boats out of plasicene just like the ones Sir Peter Blake sailed around the world in. We took a photo of the boat and we are going to make a story about it.

We have had some miserable days when we haven't been able to get outside at lunchtime.

We are doing gymnastics still, we did forward rolls with Mrs Peter.

Last Friday for Discovery we made a big leaf out of wire mesh and ribbon.

On Friday we had Wacky Hair Day and we raised money for the Westpac Air Ambulance. Some people had spray paint in their hair and some had ribbons, pipe cleaners, glitter and Lulu made a bow out of her hair. Jackie had pigtails with tinfoil on them.

We did a story about Autumn leaves, we are learning about adjectives so we used lots of awesome words.

My leaf is oval

Yellow with brown spots,

It looks like a baby and has a sticky stem.

The Barge and the Lock

We saw the barge come from the corner of the river.
Then it slowly drove in.

The gates closed in behind.

The barge stops.

The water starts getting pushed out.

The gates slowly opens when the water is level with the other water on the other side of the gate.

When the gates are fully opened the barge drives out and the other barge comes in and the water goes up when the other barge is in.

We were in Germany when we look these photos.

Eberbach was the name was the name of the town. The symbol for this area was a boy pig. Eber means boy pig and bach is small river.
The barges go from Stuttgart to Mannheim. This barge had metal for melting and rubber and plastic for recycling.

Belgium - Germany - Austria- Slovenia

Monday 17th May 2010.

This is where Archie is going to be travelling by mini van this week!

It will take him about 30 hrs flying time to get to Belgium. He will stop in Singapore & Frankfurt to change planes on the way.

We will be collecting a mini van & trailer in Belgium.

The next day we will load all the rower's equipment on and drive to Germany to collect some rowing boats.

We stay a night in Germany & then drive through Austria to Slovenia.

We need to arrive there before the rowers fly in so we can collect them from the airport.

When we get there we will tell you how it went.

Visiting Te Miro

We went on the bus to Mount Ruru and Sanatorium Hill. Kowhai and Rata walked up Mount Ruru, it was zig zaggy getting to the top. Some men were climbing up the aerial to fix the cover. We climbed the trig. Barbara fainted and the ambulance came. Linda was lucky, she got a ride. We looked at the beautiful view.

Kowhai Class

We are a Year 1-3 class at Te Miro School. We have a beautiful school near Cambridge and we love the environment. We are going to share what we are doing in our class.
